I’m best known for incredible card spinning moves or some impossible moves and for being a member of Di Cardistry.

"To practice any art, no matter how well or badly, is a way to make your soul grow. So do it.” – Kurt Vonnegut

SHIVRAJ: How did you get into cardistry or where did you see it first?

GAOLOCKLike most cardists, I started with magic. I tried to learn some false cuts and I don't remember exactly when cardistry was the only thing I did.

SHIVRAJ: How would you define 'cardistry' in your own words?

GAOLOCK: Infinite creativity with playing cards.

SHIVRAJ: Who/What inspires you the most and why?

GAOLOCK: Earlier I was inspired by some of my still favorite cardists like Jonas HaglundDennis Jin but now, there are so many awesome cardists and I think each and everyone in the community is my source of inspiration. I usually check my Instagram before sleeping, and when I see a cool cardistry video from someone, I just want to jump out of my bed and pick up a deck of playing cards!

SHIVRAJ: What is your creative process of making moves?

GAOLOCK: First, I form a concept in my head, I imagine how would I do it when I have my deck with me. Most of my moves are usually short so normally it does not take me too much time to create a move with the concept I have in mind. With longer moves, which is rare, they may take much much longer for me.

SHIVRAJ: How do you overcome a 'Creative Block'?

GAOLOCK: I don’t spend much time trying to come up with new moves. Ideas often come naturally, especially when I meet up or do video chat with other cardists.

SHIVRAJ: Describe your style in one word/sentence.

GAOLOCK: Probably I cannot really define what my style is, but I am very happy when I read comments like “Just Gaolock things” on my videos.

SHIVRAJ: What role does the art play in your life or in simple words why do you do it?

GAOLOCK: For me, playing with cards is like you have to eat and sleep everyday. Like a daily chore.

SHIVRAJ: How do you think you can help in improving the field of cardistry?

GAOLOCK: I want to inspire people to create more incredible moves than just normal packet cuts.

SHIVRAJ: What is your favourite move by you or by someone else? What do you like about it?

GAOLOCK: Cards on feet thing by Chase Duncanbecause its cool and looks almost impossible to do.

SHIVRAJ: Which is your favourite cardistry video of all time?

GAOLOCK: Daniel Lin’s Cardistry-Con Championship 2016 uncut round!

SHIVRAJ: What do you think about the concept 'Cardestroy'?

GAOLOCK: Art and technology combined. I think cardestroy is similar to 'machines' as it looks like it adapts motions/moments of a machine.

SHIVRAJ: What genre of music do you mostly listen to?

GAOLOCK: I mostly listen to Rap and R&B.

SHIVRAJ: What do you do other than cardistry?

GAOLOCK: Reading books and studying at university. I'm working for an environment project as a volunteer.

SHIVRAJ: What are you further planning to do in your life?

GAOLOCK: Get a degree, start up my own company and have a second job related to cardistry, art. I just started a project with Di Cardistry, hope that we can do more for our community

SHIVRAJ: Any contest/contests you've participated in/won?

GAOLOCK: First place in ICO (International Cardistry Open) Off-Season 2015 and was in Top 5 in CCC (Cardistry-Con Championship) 2016.

SHIVRAJ: Any advice for the community?

GAOLOCK: Be different.

SHIVRAJ: Any last thoughts? (If any)

GAOLOCK: I want to thank Duy Nguyen, Kevin Ho and Zach Mueller for everything they've given me.

SHIVRAJ: Thanks a lot for your time! Have a nice day, cheers!
