Interview with Jeongseon Ahn

Name: Jeongseon Ahn

Age: 21 Years

Cardistry: 9 Years

From: South Korea

I’m best known as the creator of "Sybil Bomb" and "Hustler" series.

SHIVRAJ: How did you get into cardistry or where did you see it first?

JEONGSEON: I started out doing magic first as most cardists do. I discovered Dan and Dave's lecture 'system' when I was 12 years old. It grabbed my attention totally because I'd never seen such cuts like madonna, sybil, and so on. I started card flourishing with magic from that time onwards but nowadays, I've been doing only card flourishing.

SHIVRAJ: How would you define 'cardistry' in your own words?

JEONGSEONCardistry is a method with which you can portray your own style.

SHIVRAJ: Who/What inspires you the most and why?

JEONGSEONUsually I'm inspired by cardists who perform with unsuspected moves and have a style, breaking my mind. They inspire me to practice and think about how I can make something cool. I love the feels I have at that time.

SHIVRAJ: What is your creative process of making moves?

JEONGSEONAlthough I imagine new things usually, I don't know my process well and I can't even talk about exactly . There were so many cases when I made something unconsciously or accidentally, trying with other's stuffs, etc. So in short, I make moves I can do somehow.

SHIVRAJ: How do you overcome a 'Creative Block'?

JEONGSEONI always encounter a creative block. A fact that I found long ago, a creative block will disappear if you rest for a while. It can be any amount of time. I think most cardists probably feel the same way too.

SHIVRAJ: Describe your style in one word/sentence.

SHIVRAJ: What role does the art play in your life or in simple words why do you do it?

JEONGSEONCardistry is my dream that I want to realize truly. I don't know why. Cardistry just became a part of my life before I realised, so I'm into cardistry.

SHIVRAJ: How do you think you can help in improving the field of cardistry?

JEONGSEONUm... I'm little doubtful that I could improve the field of cardistry. I think I can contribute in increasing the amount of Korean cardists. Korea in field of cardistry can be a little developed.

SHIVRAJ: What is your favourite move by you or by someone else? What do you like about it?

JEONGSEON: The Hustler is my favourite. I can't remember processes of making this cut, I only remember that It took quite long time to practice it.

SHIVRAJ: Which is your favourite cardistry video of all time?

JEONGSEONSeriously. I watch this video really often.

SHIVRAJ: What do you think about the concept 'Cardestroy'?

JEONGSEONIt's a totally creative thing that's really visual and funny. I remember the moment that I watched your "Cardestroy (Cards + Destroy)" video. At that time, I was sure it'll emerge as another part of the art and you made it! Anyway, Cardestroy is amazing and I'm really thankful to your teacher who gave you homework because I remember you saying that you came up with it while you were doing your school homework :P

SHIVRAJ: What genre of music do you mostly listen to?

JEONGSEONI usually listen electronica but genre doesn't matter to me if I can feel dark, heavy, excited or silent, cool bass sound from music. I love those moods.

SHIVRAJ: What do you do other than cardistry?

JEONGSEONI play the overwatch these days hahaha! I normally do cardistry when there is nothing to attract my interest.

SHIVRAJ: What are you further planning to do in your life?

JEONGSEONI have to enter the army at this October 24 for about 2 years. So first thing I'll do after coming back is that I'll attend the cardistry-con 2018 or 2019 haha. So sad I won't be able to join you guys who will be going to next cardistry-con.

SHIVRAJ: Any contest/contests you've participated in/won?

JEONGSEONOnly Cardistry-con Championship (CCC). I was in top 10 :)

SHIVRAJ: Any advice for the community?

JEONGSEONThank you so much to all cardists. You guys have made me what I am. Keep up the good work :)

SHIVRAJ: Any last thoughts? (If any)

SHIVRAJ: Thanks a lot for your time! Have a nice day, cheers!
