"It’s not what you do. It’s how you do it." – Unknown

SHIVRAJ: How did you get into cardistry or where did you see it first?

YANG: When I was 12, I just wanted to be a cool kid and get all the attention from the girls in my class. One day, when I was surfing internet and searching for cool stuff, the idea that street magic might be the best tool to pick up girls appeared in my dirty mind. I searched “easy card trick tutorial” immediately. That’s how I got into it. After 3 months of practicing card magic, I decided to move to card flourish because “card magic can be flashed, card flourish cannot.”

SHIVRAJ: How would you define 'cardistry' in your own words?

YANG: I remember a paragraph in a Decknique post that I would like to use to describe cardistry: When a guy cannot stop smiling and being happy the whole day after watching a video of a guy on the other side of the earth doing weird card shuffling, you know he is into card flourish.

SHIVRAJ: Who/What inspires you the most and why?

YANG: I don’t have any particular idol in my mind. I usually go crazy because of a cardist or a style in a period of time then move on to the others.

SHIVRAJ: What is your creative process of making moves?

YANG: Sometimes I just wonder if something is possible (usually something describable, for example, do the muscle pass with cards), then try to figure out how to do it. Sometimes I mess around with the grips and come up with utility moves or small movement. After that, I try to assemble these small movement in order to create a move. Sometimes I just smoke weed.

SHIVRAJ: How do you overcome a 'Creative Block'?

YANG: The truth is I couldn’t overcome it, but my advice is to never stop being experimental, just like an urban kid pressing random button to try different function of a game character, or a rural kid catching a bug and doing tons of cruel shit to it just to see its reaction. My second advice is to smoke weed, a-lot.

SHIVRAJ: Describe your style in one word/sentence.

YANG: Flow

SHIVRAJ: What role does the art play in your life or in simple words why do you do it?

YANGButterfly effect. It changed my life forever. I just cannot imagine how I would have spent the last 7 years if I hadn’t picked up cards that day. Friends, events, music, the way I perceive life, other hobbies, everything.

SHIVRAJ: How do you think you can help in improving the field of cardistry?

YANG: I will keep making videos to inspire people, make tutorials sometimes and share the art with laymen.

SHIVRAJ: What is your favourite move by you or by someone else? What do you like about it?

YANG: Madonna 3 (Jackson 5, Phase 1) by Dan & Dave.

No one does this move the same way, that’s what I like about it.

SHIVRAJ: Which is your favourite cardistry video of all time?

YANG: The Next Chapter by Garry A.!

I remember me and my classmates gathered in my room and watched this video the day it was published when I was 13. No words can describe the thrill of youth that we had back then.

SHIVRAJ: What do you think about the concept 'Cardestroy'?

YANG: It’s like setting up a chemical reaction and waiting for it to happen then watch it with satisfaction.

SHIVRAJ: What genre of music do you mostly listen to?

YANG: I choose music by the vibe, the atmosphere it gives me, not genre, so it is completely random if categorized by genre.

SHIVRAJ: What do you do other than cardistry?

YANG: Balisong, Beatboxing, Photography, Urban Exploration, Writing blog, Walking bare feet, Meditation, collecting stuffs and live as an ordinary Asian kid.

SHIVRAJ: What are you further planning to do in your life?

YANG: To be happy.

SHIVRAJ: Any contest/contests you've participated in/won?

YANG: I stood 4th in WKC (World Kardistry Championship) 2013/14 and CCC (Cardistry Con Championship) 2016. Also 2nd in Saturday Night Contest MC2 x 2014.

SHIVRAJ: Any advice for the community?

YANG: The community should realize the potential of moves that uses different parts of human body and uncut, choreographed stuff.

SHIVRAJ: Any last thoughts? (If any)

YANG: Nope.

SHIVRAJ: Thanks a lot for your time! Have a nice day, cheers!
